Experimental study of Collisional Radiative Recombination of Ar+ ions at low temperatures

Abstract

Presented is the flowing afterglow study of Collisional Radiative Recombination of Ar+ ions with electrons in He/Ar plasma at temperatures 77 - 200 K and electron densities up to ne ~ 10^(10) cm^(-3). The obtained ternary recombination rate coefficient at 77 K is KCRR(77 K) = (1.1 +- 0.4) x 10^(-17) cm^(6) s^(-1).

The measured temperature dependence of KCRR is in good agreement with theoretical prediction (KCRR ~ T^(-4.5 +- 1.8)).
