Abstract

Social media monitoring is a very dynamic area of research, which is a logical consequence of rapid growth of social media in general. If we want to take part in a conversation, we need tools and strategies for listening, which shall be the first step in communication in this new field.

In my submission I try to explain the importance of this topic for librarians, working both in academical and municipal libraries, show different ways of using the tools and also describe the current situation in the market (free and commercial tools). I also want to inspire the public to look at social media and monitoring as of an interesting opportunity, not an unpleasant necessity.
