Abstrakt

Understanding of number, one of the first objects making up the world of mathematics of a child at pre-school and early primary school level, is constructed in very close relationship to the child's everyday life experience. The paper introduces the learning environments Stepping and Staircase that efficiently develop understanding of number as operator and as address.
