Abstract
The article discusses the history and current expansion of otter as an important piscivore predator, the damage it causes to the fish-breeding industry and the subsequent compensations. Lastly, the article notes hostile attitudes of fishermen towards the otter and the need for environmental education of general public, leading to consistent protection of the animal.
