Propagation of interplanetary discontinuities through the interplanetary space, their modification in the foreshock and interaction with the bow shock and magnetopause are key problem of the Space Weather Program because they are often connected with strong geomagnetic disturbances. We are presenting a comprehensive analysis of the propagation of two moderate IP shocks in the solar wind and through the magnetosphere.
In both cases, the shock is observed by four spacecraft in the solar wind and by ten spacecraft in the different magnetospheric regions, which allows us to follow the evolution of the original shock and its transformation to geomagnetic disturbances and finally to trace these disturbances into the magnetotail. We found the influence of the foreshock and Bow shock on the propagation of the IP shock to the magnetotail.
