The Development of Lying in Childhood

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2012

Abstract

This study overview compiles information from foreign researches dealing with the development of lying behavior in children, especially with the early lie production and detection, functions of children's lies and moral judgement od lying. Explored studies show that as young as three year old children begin to lie in a variety of situations even though they evaluate lying as negative.

Attention is aimed to the intercultural differences in lying behavior that affect in which situations lying occurs. Knowledge is beneficial for the development of educational programmes and for assessing statements of crime witnesses/victims.
