Abstract

The article concerns the persistence of the conceptions of what is mathematics and what it means to learn mathematics which the pupils bring from their elementary classes to the lower secondary school. A case study of one class of pupils is presented while the data ("stories") were taken from the teacher's written self-reflections of lessons.
