Abstract

The paper deals with question why the reinterpretation of traditions such as historical narratives mobilize social actors in the contemporary modern cultures. It focuses on historical experience of Chinese Americans and its transformation into representations of the past.

Moreover, historical narratives legitimize particular images and different meanings of world not only in European societies based on commemoration of common history as many historians argued, but in immigrant societies based on open future as well.
