Abstract

The study analyzes important motifs in the work of Zikmund Winter, reflecting the concrete criminal cases preserved in the source material of 16th century. It finds out that Winter's way of creating the characters in his art works markedly supports the present conception of man in the tangle of alienated social relationships, in which the criminal is often a pawn in hands of "decent" and "socially vallued and succesful" manipulators.
