Abstract

The article sketches possibilities in using fiction novels as teaching materials when teaching German as a technical language, especially in courses for intercultural communication in economy. By analyzing the chapter 'In the cathedral' in Franz Kafka's novel 'The proces' it is shown exemplarily by communication problems between the main character Josef K. and an Italian businessman, how strong elements of verbal, non-verbal and paraverbal communication are culturally encoded and may lead to misunderstanding.
