The article deals with teaching Czech in the Department of Czech and Slovak Studies at the Hankuk Universtiy of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea. The author uses her own experience from teaching Czech at that university to present some important problems in teaching Czech as a second language.
To presnt conditions of that educational process, attitutes of students to Czech and their motivation for study, the author offers a brief description of a broader context of teaching and education in South Korea, their traditions and role for an individual and his function in society.
