Abstract

At the Ist department of the National Archive in Prague, there is stored very large genealogical and heraldic collection, whose author is Gottfried Daniel Wunschwitz (1678-1741). Its main content make excerpts from literature and newspaper, drawings of coats of arms and genealogical schemas.

Very often are also drawings of gravestones (and rarely other epigraphical material), which were collected by collector himself during his numerous trips. There are 653 pieces of drawings, but gravestones depicted are only 554, some of those drawings are included in more than one exemplars.

This collection contains drawings from the period 1393-1739, but especially form the end of 16th century. The drawings were made in between 1703 and 1740.

Just a few of gravestones are from abroad, the majority comes from Bohemia, District of Beroun and Plzeň. Many of drawings concern Prague (especially from churches).

These drawings are of high quality and fidelity, with many other commentaries (where exactly is the gravestone laid, of which stone is made, scripture used..).
