"That queer Sensation Born of Quick Travelling". Speed-Euphoria and Modernism in Charles Dickens's Travel Writing

Abstract

The essays shows, by analyzing Dickens's neglected journalistic works, that Dickens experimented with the techniques of inner monologue and stream-of-consciousness and that he anticipated Proust's theory of memory, wherefore he must be regarded as an important pioneer of literary modernism.
