Giovanni Castrucci: The Landscape with an Obelisque, Lost in the translation.

Abstract

This study analyzes a goup of artworks (Gabriele Faerno, Lodewijk Toeput, Jan Sadeler, Giovanni Castrucci) which were insipired by Babrius's fable about Bubulcus and Hercules. It intends to demonstrate how complex and unexpected the explanations of artworks can be.
