The aim of the study was to find out whether the content of the curriculum of Health Oriented Physical Education – focused on improving and incorrect body posture and practised in a coordinated way and under supervision- could help to compensate postural disorders in individuals with health impairment. Subject and methods: 8 boys (age 15.6 ± 0.6 years, 176.3 ± 5.9 cm, 67.0 ± 4.4 kg), classified in the 3rd health group with impaired supporting and locomotive apparatus according to WHO.

A single-group experiment was implemented during a school year. Stability parameters were obtained by standardized stabilometric method in 4 tests of quiet stance (with visual control -T1, T3), without visual control (T2, T4), on a rigid support (T1, T2), on an foam support (T2, T4)).

Results: After having administered the intervention the Body Sway (BS) represented by the centre of pressure (COP) significantly decreased in all the tests (T1, T2; p < 0.1 resp., T3, T4; p < 0.05). Significant changes in BS (RMS) were manifested in T1, T4 (p < 0.05) and T2 (p < 0.01).

Discussion: The hypothesis of potential control of postural disorders in individuals with health impairment through the administered intervention was significantly proved only for selected parameters of the stabilometric testing. Significant differences in parameters tested on rigid and elastic supports indicate a higher degree of dependence on proprioceptive regulation of posture than on visual correction.

Conclusions: The content of Health Oriented Physical Education (HOPE) curriculum helps, along with coordinated planning and supervision, as a mean affecting postural disorders in individuals with health impairment.
