With an intellect at the top and at the bottom: Gonçalo M. Tavares and Mr. Valéry

Abstract

This article tries to find the appropriate place in Portuguese contemporary literature for Gonçalo M. Tavares (1970).

Then with comparative method it focuses on analysis of two main cycles in his narrative work: series The Kingdom and The District. Author's exceptionality and mastery is based on his extraordinary rational complexity and difficulty and at the same time on his absolutely communicative and lapidary style.
