Menstrual toxic shock syndrome caused by an enterotoxin H prodicing strain of Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a serious multisystem disease caused primarily by Staphylococcus aureus strains producing toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1) or staphylococcal enterotoxin. Menstrual TSS is associated with the use of vaginal tampons.

A case is reported of a 36-year-old female with TSS caused by an enterotoxin H producing strain of Staphylococcus aureus. It was the first TSS case linked to enterotoxin H to be reported in the Czech Republic, and probably even in the world.
