Abstract
The article focuses on phenomena behind the choice of literature for translation from Swedish to Czech in the period of more than 100 years from about 1870 to 2000, trying to explain its enormous popularity in the Czech-speaking countries. It takes into account the political and cultural situation in the country of reception, readers'needs and expectations.
