Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze two basic motifs - grief and resistance - in Fonseca's social poetry with a particular support on reading of two his poems, showing how much those almost antagonistic motifs influence one another. Frequently, Portuguese neorealistic writer Manuel da Fonseca (1911-1993) describes a lamentable presence of poor people and then he appeals to the change of the society to become equitable.
