Thioctic acid in treatment of symptomatic diabetic polyneuropathy

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2011

Abstract

Thioctic (alpha-lipoic) acid works as a cofactor in a wide range of enzymatic structures. For its antioxidative character it is often used as a dietary supplement.

Thioctic acid shows a positive effect on some of chronic diabetic complications. The effect of thioctid acid on painful symptoms of diabetic polyneuropathy was studied.

Intravenous infusion of thioctic acid (10days of treatment) significantly moderated symptoms of diabetic neuropathy.
