The Prague Spring 1968 - The Rise of Transnational Civil Society?

Publication

Abstract

The paper dealt with the question in which way the civil society in the Czechoslovakia in the 1960s has been arisen. Comparing the Czechoslovak case with the social conflicts in East Germany in 1953 as well as with power transformations in Hungary and in Poland in 1956, the paper confirmed that the Czechoslovak case represented the type of the delayed destalinization in East-Central Europe.

However, it tried to argue that the rise of the transnational civil society in Czechoslovakia came with the student movement during the Prague Spring in 1968.
