Abstract

The paper consists of three methodological questions of studying contemporary history of faculties of medicine and their teachning hospitals: 1) why have faculties of medicine always been a specific parts of universities, often considered as a burden; 2) what does this mean for the work of historians; 3) do works of historians bring any "instructions" for participants in debates on organization and financing universities, science and healthcare, or the role of scholars in the past. As an axample of rmarkable complications for both university administrative and historians, administrative and functional relations between Prague faculties of medicine and Prague hospitals in 1883-1990 are studied in details.
