Abstract
An essential feature of artistic experiment is the calculated use of chance. In contrast to the scientific experiment that serves to verify or falsify hypotheses and usually confirmes the expectation, provokes the artistic experiment a process, whose result is uncertain.
This is the generative principle of self-creating art. The paper analyzes the implementation of this artistic concept in historical dimension and examines the question why autopoietic methods were used especially in the unofficial poetry and art in the 1950s and 1960s of the 20th century.
