Abstract

Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm), the causative agent of enterobiasis (oxyuriasis), is the most commonly occurring representative of helminths in the Czech population. The life cycle of the pinworm is simple, humans are the only hosts and infection is spread via faecal-oral transmission in families and groups of children.

The disease is mostly benign but in small number of patiens more severe clinical sings may occur and complications could be cause by ectopic presence of parasites (uro-genital system, appendix). In the Czech Republic, mebendazole and albendazole are used as the first line of treatment for pinworm infection
