Abstract
Atopic eczema in children is discussed in the article, new insights into its pathogenesis from the point of view of genetics, immunological background and skin barrier disorders and the relationships among all these. A major part of the text focuses on links between atopic eczema, allergy and microbial antigens.
Special attention is given to up-to-date possibilities in allergy diagnostics. Local and systemic ways of treatment and the importance of a special regime for children suffering from atopic eczema are also discussed.
The importance of interdisciplinary cooperation between paediatricians, dermatologists and allergists in management of atopic eczema in patients is emphasized.
