Abstract

The Orthodox Church gives a special care to the bodies of reposed Christians from the oldest times. The Orthodox Church considers the life on this earth as a period of preparation for the life eternal and death as a transition to a afterlife existence.

In the Orthodox Church burial is preceded by various symbolical acts. The Orthodox Church prayes for the reposed Orthodox Christians all the time, especially on certain important days after their repose: the third, the ninth and the forties and also on the day of anniversary of their repose.
