Though life became a frequented theme in the philosophy of the 20th century, the fundamental topic of reproduction remains mostly neglected. An exception is E.
Lévinas, Totality and Infinity, with a chapter on Fertility. This text is interpreted and exploited as a possible basis for a non-formal ethic.
