The Strangeness according to Waldenfels and the other in Levinas

Publication |
2006

Abstract

The aim of this article is to find the interrelations, parallels and differences between the responsive phenomenology of Bernhard Waldenfels and the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas. Principal attention is paid to the so-called ethosof sensibility,i.e.,to the obligations that emerge, according to Waldenfels, on the level of senses, and to the necessity of answering to them.

The difference between both authors appears mainly in connection with the definition of the otherness. in this respect, the concept of B. Waldenfels is close to Jacques Derrida s deconstruction.
