Is the information on reference intervals provided by manufacturers sufficient?

Abstract

In case of selected routine analyte of blood serum (cholesterol, glucose, creatinine, ALT, total protein, albumin) different manufacturers appear to provide too broad interval of lower and upper reference limits for these analytes as compared with established metrological traceability of results. Data on reference population were assessed for nine immunochemical analytes, produced by two manufacturers.

Working protocols of manufacturers use in most cases more different measurement units and even provided more numerical values for the same analyses. This fact strongly increases the risk in the health care
