Abstract

A three year old girl with a severe perinatal history (extremely low birth weight infant 700g/26.g.a., bronchopulmonary dysplasia) was at the age of 2 years immunized against pneumococcus pneumoniae with vaccine PVC-7. About 9 months after vaccination, a serious bilateral pneumonia with pleural effusion on the left side developed.

The child was treated with antibiotics, drainage of pleural effusion and systemic corticosteroids. PCR examination of pleural fluid confirmed pneumococcal etiology.

After 1 month of complex treatment the child fully recovered.
