Do neurons develop in adults? Only in a company of dominant male

Abstract

It is conventionally thought that neurons do not reproduce in adult mammals. Research led by S.

Weiss shows that in female mice smelling dominant male odour, increased number of neurons in hippocampus and olfactory bulb. Neuronal growth is perhaps under control of prolactin and luteotropin.

It seems to be also important for mate discrimination and mating behaviour.
