Activation of repair mechanisms during cellular response to ionizing radiation

Abstract

The cells have evolved a complex mechanism of biochemical pathways to enable repair of sustained radiation-induced damage or initiate active cell death - apoptosis. Activation of repair and/or apoptotic pathways is closely related to regulation of cell-cycle progress.
