Influence of the pre-operative starvation on the serum concentrations of electrolytes

Abstract

We can note some changes in internal metabolic environment (potentiated by preoperative fasting) in surgical patients perioperatively which can change conditions of the chronic diseases. Hypocalemia and hypomagnesinemia can have some influence on initiation very severe complications of heart and bowel function.

We found that preoperative fasting has not negative influence on potassium and magnesium serum concentrations.
