Abstract

The aim of the paper is to investigate lexical semantics of some of the words used in this period, especially words used for evaluation. We will take a close look at adjectives.

The main focus will be on investigating semantic shifts and on comparing collocations occurring in the corpus for the communist period and in the SYN2010 corpus, which consists of texts from current written Czech language. Totalitarian language has several characteristic features.

To conclude this paper we will raise the question of how totalitarian language differs from the language of the media in a democratic society and of advertising.
