In the first part of the article the author deals with ideological foundations of alternative schools as well as she analyses the term of alternative school. In the second part she focuses on one of the most widespread type of alternative schools - Waldorf school.
She presents Steiner's theory of social three-membership and human evolution in three cycles. She shows the influence of the theory and the antroposophy in general on the school character and role as well as on educational influence on children and organization and atmosphere of lessons.
At the end the author analyses different opinions on Waldorf schools and their educational influence. She also tries to express the general importance of alternative schools at present.
