Processes of teaching and approaches to learning - evaluation of students work in wiki environment

Publication |
2011

Abstract

Teaching in an open space provides an opportunity to use active forms of teaching / learning and creates conditions for social learning. However, results of such process-based teaching methods cannot be easily assessed by standard evaluation tools, such as online testing.

The authors demonstrate how the pedagogical principle, according to which educational objectives, methods, learning environments and assessment procedures must correspond with one another, can be applied in practice. They analyze a method of assessment focused on "students' approaches to learning", demonstrate it on the use of standardized questionnaires and describe its benefits in comparison with other evaluation tools.

Practical experience with this type of assessment was gained through international cooperation in higher education within the international Virtual Campus for Sustainable Development (VCSE) network.
