Testing for gender discrimination: exploring the link between firm performance and its share of female employees

Abstract

Gender wage gap decompositions provide useful gender policy diagnostics, but are not well designed to provide a direct test of the presence of gender discrimination. One type of such test proposed in the literature is based on the link between firm-specific economic performance and its share of female employees.

In this paper, I explore this link using a newly available database covering several hundred Czech firms in 2002
