Anthropology of law : Synthesis

Abstract

Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague, had the honour to invite scholars who were interested in the anthropology of law and the sociology of law to participate in the 'Anthropology of Law: Synthesis' conference, 21-22 May 2011, in Prague. The conference was international, thus scholars from the Central European region as well as beyond were encouraged to apply.

The goal of this international conference was to create an intellectually stimulating environment for the debate about the legal anthropology issues. The conference was held under the patronage of Professor Jan Sokol, Faculty of Humanities, Charles university in Prague.

The participation was promissed by Leopold Pospisil, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, Yale University, one of the discipline founding fathers; Jacek Maria Kurczewski, Professor of Legal Sociology, University of Warsaw; Raquel Medina Plana, Professor of Legal History, Universidad Complutense de Madrid; Roman Tokarczyk, Professor of University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska in Lublin; Josef Kandert, Professor of Social Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles university in Prague; Daniel Krošlak, Assistent Professor, University of Trnava Law School; István H. Szilágyi, Associate Professor, Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest, and many others.The conference was closed by the lecture of Professor Leopold Pospisil, "the Scientific theory of law."
