The article examines the way the nomination of candidates in direct election of the president comparative way, and emphasizes that the requirement to present a petition signed by at least 50,000 citizens, imposed constitutional amendments, is the second highest in the EU Member States (after Poland). In addition, a comparative table, which deals with constitutional requirements for passive voting rights in EU member states and their electoral systems and highlights the relevant passages of the constitutional texts in these states for the direct election of the president.
