Abstract
In connection with the introduction of direct presidential election in the Czech Republic, Austria has been one of the countries mentioned as having a parliamentary government and direct presidential election. This article summarizes Austrian experience with direct presidential election - the political circumstances of its introduction, the legal regulation and the impact on the position of the Federal President in the Austrian constitutional system.
