Abstract
Studies the metaphorical potential of allusions in Tang poetry using the late Tang poet Li Shangyin as an example. Written as part of a book dealing with issues of metaphor in language and literature in comparative perspective.
The starting point of this reserach is a re-consideration of the claim made by some scholars in the past that in Chinese traditional literature proper metaphor is missing.
