Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2012

Abstract

The article is a summary of main findings generated from a pilot study that was carried out in the preparation of the author's Master's Degree thesis. It explores gender identity constructions in children placed in a selected researched institutional care facility.

Further, the article introduces goals, theoretical and methodological backgrounds of the research conducted, and also discusses ethical aspects of the author's Ph.D. dissertation project titled "Doing Gender in Institutional Child Care Facilities". By using thick description (Geertz, 2000) and the concept of power/knowledge (Foucault, 1980), the dissertation will aim to depict the means and instruments that contribute to the (re)production of the gender order in the researched facility.
