Abstract

The book represents a contribution to the field of sociology of religion. It is aimed to present, in several chapters and based on analysis of various types of data, relationships of religion and religious scene in the CR to other important social phenomena.

The first chapter is called "How many believers are there actually?" In this chapter, the authors deal with problems connected with measuring of religious phenomena. The second chapter discusses rate of success of religious socialization in families.

Socialization is a very topical theme in the individualized society and it is thus interesting to compare, to what extent religious education is more un/successful than teaching other social values. Three following chapters are devoted to relationship of religion and some subjective - or seen as subjective - phenomena in the current Czech society: these are confidence, happiness and tolerance.

Confidence is discussed from two aspects here. First of all, as confidence felt to other people in the society, confidence serving as the bond of society and at the same time as lubricant preventing conflicts in human relations - both naturally in relation to religiousness of examined respondents.

Next chapter deals with relationship of sense of happiness and religiousness. It offers an answer to the question whether religious affiliation (faith, practice, experience) rather supports sense of happiness and satisfaction with life or, on the contrary, limits it.

In chapter devoted to tolerance, authors discuss several meanings that tolerance can gain in relation to religiousness. The final chapter deals with the Last Things - relations between religiousness and the form of funeral rituals.
