This article deals with the study of mechanisms responsible for development of chronic anthracycline cardiotoxicity with respect to potential role of the Nrf2 (master regulator of antioxidant defense) and PGC1alfa (master regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis pathway). Our data suggest that there is no coordinated response of Nrf2 pathway in anthracycline cardiotoxicity, while mitochondrial biogenesis seemed rather suppressed, especially in the follow up period.
