Popularizing and educational events at the Department of Teaching and Didactics of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Charles University
Abstract
Department of Teaching and Didactics of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University in cooperation with specialized chemical departments of the same faculty organizes popularizing and educational events in response to the current state of unflattering results of international research in scientific literacy and generally rather negative attitude of public and secondary schools' students toward chemistry. One of the aims of this type of event is to attract a wider audience.
We focus also on smaller groups of students and teachers emphasising on the demonstration of the beauty and importance of chemistry in particular, we show that on the the basis of basic chemical principles and conventional and less conventional experiments. Demonstrations use visually interesting experiments with emphasis on their educational potential while we are trying to build on the current structure of information and knowledge of specific groups of pupils.
