Attempts at formation of the standardized languages in Middle and Eastern Europe: From national movement to Wikipedia?

Abstract

This paper aims at demonstrating the principal similarity between the formation of the standardized languages in Middle and Eastern Europe in the time of the classical national movement (19th century) and the proceses of creating new dialectal or regional language versions of the free internet encyclopedia Wikipedia. The article also shows the history and the contemporary state of the policy for creating new language versions of Wikipedia.
