This monograph sheds light on the most important Czechoslovak exile organizations and their activities between 1968 and 1989. Activities of the older exiles are compared and contrasted with those of the post-1968 exiles.
In particular, the Council of Free Czechoslovakia and its reunification under Mojmír Povolný in 1974 is analyzed as is the Listy Group founded by Jiří Pelikán in 1971. Pavel Tigrid's journal "Svědectví" is scrutinized in detail as are Jan Kavan's Palach Press Agency, František Janouch's Charta 77 Foundation, and the Czechoslovak Desk at Radio Free Europe.
Individual exile publishing houses are mentioned too. The volume also contains the personal testimonies of a number of key exile personalities.
