Abstract
The article deals with current situation in social long-term care for the elderly in Prague. Main attention is focused on a dichotomy between declared preferences of home care and increasing demand for residential social care.
They are indicated the main neuralgic points of the social care system in the Czech Republic from perspective of the main stakeholders (clients of social services - older people and their careers, social services providers and local government representatives). The article concentrates on formal care as well as informal (family) care and their mutual relationships in the social care system.
