Abstract
Vitamin D is very old and important compound. One of its role in organism (and most widely known) is related to mineral metabolism.
Lack of vitamin D could result in manifestation of rickets in growing organism. With change of life, industry development, air pollution, and undernourishment rickets was a common phenomenon of last two centuries.
At present time the high risk group comprises breast-fed, unsupplemented children with dark skin living in northern latitude.
