Abstract

The aim of the work is to assess the development of selected aspects of hospital payment in the Czech Republic after 1998 in relation to the allocative efficiency of financial resources distributed among different types of Czech hospitals according to their size, function, and scope of services, using statistical data on the activities of these hospitals (Institute of health information and statistics of the Czech Republic, WHO Health Data). Development of payments is evaluated in the context of market-oriented reforms in the Czech Republic.

The work highlights the need to extend the current reasoning of organizational changes in hospital care, based on the intent of financial savings and reduced numbers of beds also for other evaluation indicators, including financial ratios, allowing to evaluate cost of hospitalization in relation to the volume and complexity of provided services.
